About 7,560 pounds of raw meat are being recalled. The products are all one-pound chubs (ground pork in packaging shaped like a large thick sausage). They are labeled “Bob Evans Italian Sausage” with a lot code XEN3663466 and a “USE/FRZ BY” date of 11/26/22. The items also have a time stamp between 14:43 and 15:25, and can be further identified by an establishment number “EST. 6785” inside the USDA mark of inspection. Because the packs of sausage were sent to retailers throughout the United States, customers who have bought Bob Evans pork products are advised to check their refrigerators or freezers to see if they have the items under recall. Consumers are urged not to eat the products, and either throw them away or return them to the place of purchase. Consumers who have questions about the recall can contact Geo Money, the director of communications at Bob Evans Foods Inc. at 440-463-3264 or george.money@bobevansfoods.com. The problem was discovered when customers complained to the company that they were finding pieces of blue rubber in the product. The USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) notes that there have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions from consumption of this sausage. The federal agency recommends that anyone who may suspect they have an injury or illness caused by a contaminated product should contact a healthcare provider. The Ohio-based food manufacturer faced an identical problem in the spring of 2021 when it recalled about 4,200 pounds of Italian pork sausage thought to be contaminated with thin blue rubber.
